Ado-Ekiti – A housewife, Mrs Remi Olonitola, on Friday approached an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court seeking the dissolution of her 11-year-old marriage with her husband, Kola Olonitola for lack of care and frequent beatings.
Remi, 36, trader, told the court that the respondent had failed in his duty to provide food for her and the children.
The mother of three said whenever she asked for money from the respondent, he resorted to fighting her.
The petitioner said sometimes the respondent normally buy six cups of rice without other ingredients to cook the food.
Remi told the court that she was no longer interested in the union, and appealed to the court to dissolve the 11-year-old marriage.
Remi appealed to the court to award the custody of the children to her for proper monitoring and care.
She prayed the court to compel the respondent to pay N4, 000 monthly for feeding of each of the three children.
The respondent, Mr Kola Olonitola, 49, an `okada rider,’ refuted the allegations levelled against him by the petitioner.
The father of three children explained that he usually gives feeding money to the petitioner on daily basis and pays the school fees of the children.
He told the court that he collected a loan of N400, 000 in 2016 and gave it to the petitioner for the upkeep of the house, children’s education and feeding.
The respondent appealed to the court to permit him to bring four witnesses who would testify to his claims about the loan given to the petitioner.
He agreed to the dissolution of the marriage for peace to reign.
The President, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi adjourned the case till March 7 for further hearing.
