ABUJA – Managers of beauty salons in Abuja on Wednesday attributed women’s passion for artificial hair to the quest to look good, attractive and seek attention.
Some of the beauty salons visited by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent included Perfection Hair Salon, Gwarimpa, Hair Wizard Beauty Salon, Wuse, and K.C styles Salon Wuse.
Mr Ope Adeleye the manager of Perfection, said most women preferred artificial hair to their natural hair because it gave them a different look.
“In my salon, my customers are mostly women and some of them patronise me twice a month while some do theirs once a month.
“They are regular and some of them come with their (hair) weaves, while some buy from us in the salon.
“It is cheaper to come with your weaves than to buy in the salon because we have to make gain,” Adeleye said.
Chichi Uzoma, proprietor of Hair Wizard, salon said most women’s flair for artificial hair was to attract attention of people.
“Apart from the fact that some of them want to look good, some of them do it to get attention from men and friends.
“They flaunt their hair at every given opportunity and at the same time demand compliments from people,’’ Uzoma said.
Kelechi Chinazor of K.C Salon said that artificial hair had its negative side.
She said, however, that artificial hair weakened the natural hair and at the same time required more maintenance.
According to Chinazor, “artificial hair is also time consuming as the wearer creates time to comb, brush and style it. [eap_ad_1] “The price is also astronomical because the least artificial hair can cost about N1,000 for one pack and one requires two packs to make a hair.
Chinazor listed the different types of hair to include Indian hair, Peruvian hair, Chocolate, Chinese, Premium, Darling Yaki, Remy hair, among others.
“Indian hair can go as high as N300, 000, while the cheapest one can be got for N35, 000; the Chinese hair can go as much as N8, 000 and N1, 000 for the cheapest one.
“Chocolate hair can cost up to N18, 000, while the lowest price is N3, 000.
“Indian hair is considered the best in the market because of its quality and length.
“Indian hairs are the most expensive; the colour varieties and different hairstyles are part of the cost,’’ he said.
Patience Besong, a customer at Perfection Hair Salon , said that economic crisis never affected her as far as looking good was concerned.
“I like to look good and because I am beautiful I will not allow economic crisis to affect my hair,’’ she said. (NAN)
