Abuja -The National Industrial Court (NIC) on Wednesday in Abuja admitted in evidence exhibits tendered by Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN) in its suit against the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
ACSCSN had filed an ex-parte application before the court seeking to restrain the commission’s management from its alleged plans to sack no fewer than 1,000 of its workforce.
Justice Peter Lifu had in his ruling granted an order restraining NIMC from taking any form of disciplinary action against the claimants or sacking them, pending the determination of the suit.
At Wednesday’s sitting slated for hearing, Mr Isaac Ojemeheke, gave the witness statement on oath on behalf of the aggrieved workers and tendered 20 exhibits, which were admitted in evidence.
The exhibits comprised various steps taken by NIMC management in its attempt to lay off its members of staff under various guises, such as letters of query addressed to them.
Although Mr Awa Kalu, the counsel to the defendants had objected to the exhibits 8 to 20 on the ground that they were not Certified True Copies, this was overruled by the court.
Justice Lifu held that the documents tendered as exhibits but objected to were crucial to the determination of the case before him.
He adjourned the case to Oct. 12 for the defendants to open their defence. (NAN)
