Bauchi – Bauchi State House of Assembly on Tuesday summoned the State Head of Service, Mr Abdon Gin, to appear before it on Wednesday and explain the delay in payment of salaries of workers that had already been verified to be genuine civil servants.
Also summoned were the Accoutant-General of the State, Alhaji Abubakar Gadi; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Malam Ismaila Tsafi; Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Nuru Yelwaji, as well as representatives of State and Local Government Pension Boards.
In a statement issued Tuesday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Director of Information of the House, Malam Lamara Chinade, said the summon was sequel to a motion under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, moved by Hon. Tijani Aliyu representing Azare/Madangala constituency.
Aliyu had noted that since December last year when the state government commenced verification of workers, some civil servants had yet to collect their salaries.
He had wondered why the delay in payment of their entitlements in spite of the fact that Gov. Mohammed Abubakar had directed that salaries of verified workers be paid.
The release also quoted Hon. Yusuf Nuhu who supported the motion as saying that the legislators, being representatives of the people, would not allow those who elected them suffer unnecessary hardship.
Another member, Hon Awwal Hassan, who also spoke on the issue, said some workers and pensioners were reported to have slumped as they could no longer withstand their predicaments.
In adopting the motion, the House directed the Head of Service and the ministries and agencies which staff were affected by the delay in payment of salary, to appear before it on Wednesday.(NAN)
