LAGOS – The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) on Thursday urged the Brazilian Embassy in Nigeria not to honour any letter for visa processing without the approval of its President-General, Dr Rafiu Oladipo.
Oladipo made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on the issue of con men who invaded the embassy for visa for the 2014 World Cup.
The president-general said that the club learnt that con men purportedly presented official letters either as officials of the Nigeria Football Association or NFSC.
“I have advised the Brazilian Embassy not to issue visa to anyone without a duly signed letter from the president-general of the club.
“In fact, I’ve directed the Secretary-General of the club, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, to write a letter to the embassy that it was only the secretary that has the authority to process visa for members at the embassy.
“So, anyone who presents his or herself as member of the club to the embassy with a letter not duly signed by the president-general of the club should be treated as a fraudster.
“The embassy should not only arrest such a person but should also hand over such person to the police,” he said.
Oladipo, who is also the President-General of the African Football and Other Sports Supporters Union (AFOSSU), said the
club was jointly processing visa for its members through its secretary and not on individual basis.
Meanwhile, the club has commended Gov. Rotimi Amechi of Rivers for appointing a member of the club, Mr Joe Johnson, as the General Manager of the state-owned Dolphin FC.
Oladipo told NAN that Johnson was currently the chairman of the NFSC, Rivers State chapter.
The president-general said the club wished Johnson a successful tenure and pledged its support to him.
He said that Johnson’s appointment was to the glory of the club. (NAN)
