Lagos – Adeleye Eweje, a Wushu Kung-Fu Coach on Saturday, called on the Kung-Fu Federation (NWKF) to engage their coaches in refresher courses so as to raise their coaching standard.
Eweje, of the Oyo State Sports Council, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that such effort could enable the coaches to improve their supervision of the standard of their fighting techniques.
“The success of athletes are derived from the quality of training they receive from their coaches; this is the reason why I am soliciting for such re-empowerment.
“Refresher courses provide opportunities for coaches to update their knowledge to the standard required by the practitioner to apply during competitions in various levels,’’ he said.
He said it was important and economical for the Nigeria Wushu Kung-Fu Federation (NWKF) to give priority to training in order to ensure that it was handled by experts in the field.
“The National body should be able to liaise with international body so that they could send experts down to hold coaching seminars for training crew.

“Since the NWKF is affiliated to the international body, there are benefits and ways that they can help to ensure even development of bodies under them, just like us.
“This is necessary as some coaches cannot conveniently travel to foreign countries to take part in such courses, so, bringing experts to Nigeria is more economical’’.
The coach added that refresher courses would help to foster unity and set uniform training standard for coaches for improved performances of their careers.
He, then, advised the body to improve its sponsorship drive in 2016, to effectively execute their activities in the sport. (NAN)
