Abuja (Sundiata Post) — Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was, on Tuesday, mandated by the House to lead a delegation of the House to South Africa over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
Gbajabiamila, who is expected to embark on the trip at the earliest time, will lead five other lawmakers from the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
The announcement was made on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary by the Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yusuf.
Gbajabiamila will be joined by the Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Nnena Ukeje (PDP, Abia); Sadiq Ibrahim (APC, Adamawa), Henry Nwawuba (PDP, Imo), Nasiru Zango Daura (APC, Katsina) and Shehu Aliyu Musa (APC, Bauchi).
The decision followed a resolution that the delegation of legislators and Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ officials engage the parliament of South Africa and Nigerians in South Africa on the xenophobic attacks with a view to stop the attacks and any further occurrence in future.
It would be recalled that the House, last week, condemned the attack on its citizens in South Africa.
