Yabatech’s 4th annual art exhibition to project innovations in contemporary arts

Lagos –   Yaba College of Technology says that its fourth annual art exhibition will showcase innovations in contemporary arts.

Mr Pius Egiolamhen, the Chairman of Organizing Committee for the exhibition, disclosed this at a news conference on Friday in Lagos.

He said that the exhibition would be to honour Kolade Oshinowo , a distinguished scholar who clocked 70 recently and to resuscitate its annual art exhibition
which it started in 1989.

He said that the annual exhibition would help to create a platform for the lecturers in the school to showcase their ideas in visual expression.

According to him, this is a move to build bridges with a view to linking the various departments in the School to the public.

He said that it would also help to enrich their students’ knowledge.

“We desire that the effort will foster a synergy between the schools in the college and some major industries.

“The School of Art, Design and Printing Technology has come of age and it standa unique among other Art Schools with commendable achievements and strong projection for the future.

“The school will link up with the art collectors, critics, writers and art lovers who are constantly waiting on the artists for innovative ideas.

“ Obviously, our students are going to benefit immensely from the outcome of the exhibition and other innovations associated with the collaborations,” he said.

Also, Dr. Kunle Adeyemi, Dean, School of Art, Design and Printing Technology of the institution, said that the school was conscious of the fact that contemporary art was moving toward the direction of science.

He said that this was an opportunity for the artists to collaborate with other schools in the college in the areas of design and fabrication to meet the needs of 21st century artistic endeavour.

Adeyemi said that the exhibition with the theme:“Tribute to Oshinowo @ 70” would hold between Feb. 23, 2018 and March 22, 2018 at the Yusuf Grillo Art Gallery, Yaba College of Technology

It would feature a wide range of media such as drawings, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, printmaking, textile designs, mixed media and installation art.

“Some of the participating artist will include : Rukeme Noserime, Mike Omoighe, Olu Amoda, Pius Egiolamhen, Toni Ogunde, Odun Orimolade, Emah Idiong, Sodade Ayoola and himself,’’ he said.

Adeyemi said that this was the fourth exhibition in the history of the school, adding that the school would be holding it annually, henceforth.(NAN)
