Gusau – Gov. Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara, has cautioned the contractors handling the multi-billion naira Talata-Mafara bypass road against executing a shoddy job.
The Governor gave the warning on Thursday while inspecting some ongoing road projects being executed in the state by his administration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the State Executive Council had in early January approved the award of the contract for the construction of the road to Mother Cat Ltd.
The road was awarded at the cost of over N3.8 billion to be completed before the end of May this year.
Already, the State Government said it had released 40 per cent of the total contract sum to the contractor handling the job.
The Governor, who commended changes made on the project, warned that “I will not compromise standards in the execution of government projects in the state’’.
The State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Ahmad Sharu, conducted the Governor round the project sites.
Sharu said some amendments were made to the original 14.2 kilometers which led to the reduction of the length by 1.4 kilometers.
He explained that, the 1.4 kilometers excess had been converted to the construction of feeder roads to be extended to villages situated along the bypass.
While speaking on behalf of Mother Cat Ltd, Mr. Ziyad Karam, assured that a quality work would be executed within the agreed time frame. (NAN)
