The newly-appointed Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy, Alhaji Surajo Wakil, gave the warning in Damaturu on his assumption of duty at the ministry.

“There are a lot of expectations from this ministry in terms of infrastructure development amidst scarce resources; we therefore have to ensure that there is value for money in all projects executed by government.

“Yobe receives the least amount of revenue from the Federation Account, so we cannot accept unreasonable proposals and quotations from prospective companies, and job quality will not be compromised,’’ he said.

Wakil said it was the duty of government to provide infrastructure and effectively cater for its people, thus stable revenue generation sources would be harnessed to drive the needed growth in the state.

“We have to look at those revenue generating departments of this ministry and reinvigorate them so as to bring more revenue to the state.

“We are all aware of the prevailing economic situation in the country, so we must not relax in taking advantage of such departments like the VIO, Yobe Line Mass Transit and other technical departments.

“A very good job concept would soon be deployed on roads construction, especially in Trans-saharan routes and other projects execution to maintain quality standard in the state.

“Engineers and technicians will surely take responsibility of success or failure of projects in this ministry, so proper supervision and monitoring must be strictly adhered to,” the commissioner said. (NAN)
