The Yobe State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, has praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for his strong commitment to building capacity among public officials to boost service delivery in the state.
Hon. Bego gave the commendation during his presentation titled “Public Information Management in a Democracy: Experience Sharing” at a three-day capacity-building workshop held at Bon Hotel in Kano for Focal Persons.
Governor Buni, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, mni, officially opened and closed the workshop. In his remarks, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary resources to ensure effective governance and lasting development across Yobe.
In his address, Hon. Bego highlighted the important role Focal Persons play as managers of public information within their respective agencies. He stressed that their duties go beyond their direct assignments, as they help manage the flow of information to ensure transparency and build public trust.
Speaking from his years of experience as a government spokesperson under Governors Mamman B. Ali, Ibrahim Gaidam, and Mai Mala Buni, Hon. Bego shared lessons and best practices in handling public communication.
“Focal Persons, by the nature of their roles, are custodians of public information. Regardless of the sector or agency they are assigned to, their ability to effectively manage information flow, especially in the digital era, can significantly influence public trust and service outcomes,” Bego stated.
He also warned them to be cautious and professional when using social media, reminding them that their digital conduct must reflect the values of transparency, accountability, and excellence that the current administration upholds.
The workshop, themed “Towards Qualitative and Impactful Service Delivery for Sustainable Development,” aimed to equip participants with key tools and knowledge. Each Focal Person received a laptop and training materials, while the program ended with the creation of a practical framework to track and improve service delivery in Yobe.
Hon. Bego expressed hope that the training and government support would help Focal Persons deliver real benefits to the people of Yobe State.
