DAMATURU – Tbe Yobe State Government on Thursday said it had paid N900 million on the scholarship for 350 students studying in various institutions abroad in the last one year.
Alhaji Ismaila Nguru, the State’s Commissioner for Higher Education, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen in Damaturu.
He explained that 87 others were being sponsored by the state government at the Turkish/Nile University in Nigeria.
“The state government has also paid for the scholarship of 18,000 students in various tertiary institutions in the country.’’ [eap_ad_1] The commissioner said government was providing support and incentives to encourage students of medicine, engineering and pharmacy to boost manpower needs of the state.
Nguru said 300 nurses were ready for advanced nursing courses in India to improve manpower in the health sector.
The commissioner expressed delight in the transformation of the education sector to fast track development in the state. (NAN)
