Abuja – President of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere, on Tuesday charged youths to support the present administration’s fight against corruption.
Ugochinyere gave the charge in Abuja during the opening of Register to Collect Signatures in Support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
“We have asked ourselves to open registers in the office of the youth council across the 36 states of the federation and Abuja to register our members.’’
“The register will also be opened at the headquarters of the 104 affiliate organisations of the youth council, the embassy in UK, US and China.
“Volunteer, patriotic youths of the council shall be in the markets, churches, mosques, offices, parks and everywhere for Nigerians willing to sign up and pledge support for the anti-corruption war.’’
Ugochinyere said corruption weakens democracy and trust in leaders, adding that it also discourages public and private investment and slows development.
He said those who suffer the consequences of corruption were those who depend on public resources for their well-being and the youths.
Ugochinyere said youths and the poor were most vulnerable to corruption as they were dependent on the government for housing, health care, education, security and welfare.
Chairman of the occasion, Mr Umar Farouk, member of House of Representatives, identified corruption as the cankerworm that had slowed down the progress of the country.

“Nigeria is blessed with both human and natural resources, but we cannot move forward because of corruption.
“The youths should take bold step and support the president. Corruption may want to fight back, but we should all be ready to fight war against corruption’’, he said. (NAN)
