BAUCHI – Gov. Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State on Monday appealed to the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to site one of its colleges in Bauchi.
Yuguda made the appeal when the President of ANAN, Alhaji Sakirudeen Labode, led other members of the association’s Governing Board on a courtesy visit to him in Bauchi.
He said that there was no such school in the North-East zone and the centrality and the peaceful atmosphere of Bauchi made it a good place to locate such a college.
The governor said that most federal institutions that were located in the zone had their headquarters in Bauchi.
“So, I stand to reason that the headquarters of ANAN in the North-East zone should also be located in Bauchi.
“We will allocate a piece of land where you will build the college, but in between, you may use some of the facilities we have as a pilot project, “he said.
He said if sited in the zone, the school would encourage governments to do more, especially in the areas of transparency and accountability in the way and manner government businesses were conducted.
“I want to say here that accountability cannot be attained without accountancy, so I must commend the important role ANAN is playing in training our accountants.
“We have so many professional accountants that are ANAN-certified. This has improved the quality of accountability in managing our public treasuries,” he said.
Earlier, Labode said they were in the state for a week-long Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme.
He commended the governor for carrying out innovations and reforms, especially in financial management, for effective service delivery.
Labode promised to look into the governor’s request, saying he would present it at the next council meeting of the association. (NAN)
