Yuletide: Abia Govt. warns against use of fireworks

Umuahia – The Abia Government has again warned against the use of fireworks and explosives during the yuletide and beyond.

The warning is contained in a statement issued by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Godwin Adindu.

Adindu quoted the governor as saying it was important for the people of Abia to enjoy peaceful and joyous Christmas and New year devoid of any violence.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]

According to him, the police and other law enforcement agencies have been directed to apprehend offenders.

He stated that the ban was for the general good of the people as fireworks and explosives had resulted in fire incidents in many places in the past .

The governor added that fireworks had been used as decoy by criminals to wreck havoc on innocent citizens at this period of the year.

“The public, especially youths, are advised to conduct themselves peaceably throughout the festive period.

“The Abia Government, therefore, wishes and prays that all Abians experience a merry Christmas and happy new year celebrations.’’ (NAN)
