Enugu – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has warned motorists against jumping traffic and parking on the roads within and outside Enugu during the yuletide.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that due to the hilly topography of Enugu, most of the road corridors leading to the area are narrow.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in Enugu State, Mr David Mendie, informed NAN on Monday that the commission will work closely with security agencies to deal decisively with motorists, who cause unnecessarily cause gridlocks on the roads.
“I want to let the people coming to Enugu to know that we are on the ground to make sure that the road is passable.
“And also, to advise that once they see the queue, they should follow the queue.
“They should not jump the traffic because once anybody jumps the traffic, you are going in for problems and we will make sure that you receive the punishment you deserve.
“By the time you jump traffic, it is going to be horrible. Now the traffic facing you may not have any place to go.
“Use the queue and then the traffic will flow normally.
“And whoever has a broken down vehicle or wants to park for one thing or the other should park off the roads and not on the roads.’’

Mendie said that the commission had been sensitising members of transport associations to the need to be disciplined and to stop parking on the road to off-load goods.
The commander further said that 24 hours surveillance had begun within the 9th Mile corner of the Enugu-Onitsha road to monitor the behaviour of motorists.

He added that similar operations will go on in other parts of the state.
“While our emergency and ambulance units are on alert to hit any accident scene in the shortest time possible, we are geared up to ensure the safety of Nigerians,’’ he said. (NAN)
