Gusau – More than 300 women in Zamfara, on Monday conducted special prayers for Nigeria to overcome current security and economic challenges facing it.
The prayer session, organised by the state branch of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), followed what it called persistent security challenges such as insurgency, cattle rustling, kidnapping, rape and armed banditry afflicting the nation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prayers, conducted at about 6:00 am in Gusau, included recitation of the Holy Qur’an, was also to mark the end of the three-day annual conference of the association.
The state Ameera of the association, Hajiya Zainab Isa said the occasion was to seek God’s intervention for Nigeria to overcome its challenges, adding that FOMWAN had always organised such prayers, whenever the need arises.
She called on Nigerians irrespective of religion, tribe or regional differences to support and cooperate with government to enhance security and restore peace in the country.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
On the conference, which had as its theme ‘’Muslim Women and Present Day Society’’, the Ameera said it was to draw the attention of women in the state on the need to play greater role in national development.
“Women in Islam have a greater role to play in the development of any society, nation, group of people or individuals, but due to some challenges and difficulties our women are left behind,
“We invited Islamic scholars and resource persons within and outside the state, who presented various papers and held preaching sessions related to the topic of the conference,” she said.
According to her, more than 300 women drown from the 14 local government areas of the state and others from Katsina State participated in the conference.
She commended the resource persons for contributing to the success of the event, and called on the participants to put what they learnt into practice. (NAN)
