Talatan Mafara (Zamfara State) – Gov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara on Tuesday said the
state government would partner communities toward providing alternative power source.
Yari said this while addressing members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who were on Democracy Dividend Media Tour to the state, led by the National President of the union, Abdulwaheed Odusile.
The governor said the initiative would improve electricity supply in the state, noting that “although electricity distribution is on the exclusive list of the nation’s constitution, Zamfara Government will devise
a way to provide electricity to the people.”
He added that the process, which was currently being fine tuned to avoid having issues with electricity distribution companies, would boost various self employed trades that used power to remain afloat.
The governor maintained that the decision to concentrate on construction of roads in the state was borne out of the state government’s desire to improve security and encourage the springing up of small scale entrepreneurship.
He lamented that banditry had continued in the state due to difficult terrains and poor communication network in some areas.
The NUJ national president told the governor that the team was in the state to promote good governance and hold governments accountable to the expectations of the electorate.
Odusile commended the development strides of the governor in the state and urged him to continue to take the state to greater heights. (NAN)
