The Adamawa State government has received relief materials from the Federal Government (FG) for thousands of Internally Displaced Persons occasioned by the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents.
Taking delivery of the materials, the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Mr Ahmadu Fintiri, said the efforts being made by the FG to cushion the hardships faced by the displaced persons, were indications of the government‘s commitment to ending the insurgency.
Governor Fintri said that the pronouncement by President Goodluck Jonathan that the Federal Government would do everything humanly possible to end the Boko Haram crisis bedevilling Nigeria particularly the north-east part of the Country.
President Jonathan is widely quoted to have promised that by next month the insurgents, who have embarked on an uncontrolled killing across the country with devastating effect mostly around the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, would have been rooted out.
The Internally Displaced Persons are residents of Madagali, Gulak, Michika and Bazza and environs from three Local Government Areas of the state.
He called on the people of the State to accord the President the required support and cooperation, and praised security agencies for their gallantry in the search for lasting peace in the north-east and the country as a whole.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders in the state have resolved to get things right by ensuring the party wins the gubernatorial bye-election slated for the October 11. [eap_ad_1] At the stakeholders’ forum, Governor Fintiri said the President’s sincerity and patriotism to the development of the country motivated him and other Governors to endorse his candidature in the 2015 general elections.
The acting governor thanked the Stakeholders and assured them that everything would be done by his administration and the party to hand-over power in 2015 as promised.
Former Presidential Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Mr Ahmed Gulak, pledged that with the emergence of Fintiri as the flag-bearer of the party ahead of the state gubernatorial poll, all other aspirants that lost out in the primaries had thrown their support for the candidature of Governor Fintiri for the success of the party.
Another member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jibrin Aminu, said that the Acting Governor had started performing and commended his efforts in reducing the State’s debt profile.
Professor Aminu proudly concludes that; “Adamawa State is a PDP State and will remain so now and in 2015”.
