Lagos – Two drivers on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing 723 empty crates of beer valued at N950,000 ,property of Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd.
The defendants, Taiwo Adebayo, 35 and Bolaji Babalola, 27, both drivers in Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd,were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
They were, however, granted bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Adebayo resides at No.4 Ilogbo Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun, while Babalola resides at No. 4 Adisa Fatai Street, Ikorodu, a suburb in Lagos State.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the defendants committed the offenses at Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd at No. 469, Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, Abule-Egba, Lagos on Feb. 10.
Ayorinde said they conspired with others still at large and stole the empty crates.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The transport company had loaded one of their trucks with 723 crates of Nigeria breweries Goldberg beer and asked the accused to deliver them to a customers at Ibadan in Oyo State.
“Investigations revealed that the accused delivered the goods and diverted the empty crates to an unknown destination,’’ he said.
Ayorinde said the offenses contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year imprisonment for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.J. Awope, adjourned the case till April 11 for mention. (NAN)
