Christians from all 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State under aegis of Local Government Coalition of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rivers State have unanimously endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan and Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
The Rivers State Local Government Areas CAN Coalition announced the endorsements on Monday in Port Harcourt during the Rivers State CAN Prayer Conquest 2015. They argued that endorsements were products of negotiation and consultation across the grassroots membership of CAN.
Rivers State Chairman of Local Government Areas Coalition of CAN, Rev. Peter Georgewill said that the endorsement of President Jonathan and Barrister Wike is prophetic.

While describing Jonathan as a leader committed to furthering the cause of development across Nigeria, Rev. Georgewill said Wike is leader prepared for Rivers State at a time like this, when the outgoing administration and her associates have derailed.
He said all the CAN coordinators in the local government areas and wards resolved to pray and work towards the emergence of Barrister Wike as the next governor of the state, because the work that needs to be done requires a sound and experienced team to move the state forward.
Rivers State CAN Chairman, Apostle Zilley Aggrey represented by Arch Bishop Obomanu commended the Local government coalition for taking a step in the interest of the state by endorsing President Jonathan and Barrister Wike.
Outlining the reasons for the endorsements of President Jonathan and Barrister Wike, Rev. B. Obinna said President Jonathan promotes rule of law while Barrister Wike has track record of executing development projects.
Responding to the endorsements, Wike assured the Christians in the state that as a confirmed Christian he would surpass the expectations of Christians in Rivers state.
He described the endorsement as a solemn assignment from the Christian community which will be taken with all sense of responsibility to revive Rivers State.
He said: “This is not a campaign ground. My promises are solemn, I fear God and I respect the clergy. We will honour God by appointing a Special Adviser on Faith Based Groups to link CAN to the state government.
“I will institute a rural ministers support fund to empower rural preachers. I will also institute statutory Christian programmes to be funded by government and run by CAN. I will also constitute the Rivers State Christian Board and CAN will be duly represented”.
He assured the Christian Community that his Christian life is premised in Jesus Christ, noting that the rumour being spread by the APC that he belongs to a secret society is fabricated to distract attention.
The programme witnessed prayers for the victory and protection of President Jonathan and Barrister Wike in the forthcoming general elections.
