LAGOS – The Minister of Sports, Tamuno Danagogo, on Wednesday called for Inter-Security Agencies Games in Nigeria to promote inter-service relationship.
Danagogo made the call at the inauguration of an Ultra-Modern Indoor Badminton Complex and Olympic Standard Swimming Pool at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that such Games would involve the military, police and para-military services.
The minister, who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, praised the Nigeria Police Force for its involvement in sporting activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force has fared well in sporting activities in Nigeria. Many men and women from the force have brought honours to the country.
“I know that through these facilities more international stars will be discovered.
“I urge the police and athletes to put the facilities to maximum use,’’ the minister said.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, said the project was part of efforts to resuscitate sporting activities and promote excellent performances in the force.
Abubakar, who was represented by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone II, Mr Mamman Tsafe, said he had restored the lost sporting spirit in the force.
He said that within two years of assumption of office, he promoted all officers involved in sports and rehabilitated many sports centres to encourage the men.
He commended some of the officers that had brought honours to the nation, including the late Sunday Bada and Chioma Ajuwan, currently a Divisional Police Officer in Lagos.
There were demonstrations by some of the athletes in swimming and badminton. (NAN)
