MINNA – The Niger Government will fully enforce the law against those who refuse polio immunisation, Gov. Babangida Aliyu said Thursday at the sixth round of the Immunisation Plus Days in Minna.
Aliyu said the penalty for refusal of polio vaccine was two years imprisonment or a N50,000 fine, adding “we are also committed to ensuring that every child is immunised against all vaccine-preventable diseases. He urged parents and healthcare givers to continue to encourage the immunisation of children and wards to prevent the spread of the disease.
Earlier, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, warned parents on the dangers of refusing immunisations.
“It is important to note that one confirmed case of Wild Polio Virus has the potential of infecting 200 children in the community,’’ he said.(NAN)
