MINNA – The Niger Government will fully enforce the law against those who refuse polio immunisation, Gov. Babangida Aliyu said Thursday at the sixth round of the Immunisation Plus Days in Minna.
Aliyu said the penalty for refusal of polio vaccine was two years imprisonment or a N50,000 fine, adding “we are also committed to ensuring that every child is immunised against all vaccine-preventable diseases. [eap_ad_1] “We have directed all 25 local governments to drive the process of immunisation campaign and primary healthcare delivery at the grassroots communities in the state.’’
He urged parents and healthcare givers to continue to encourage the immunisation of children and wards to prevent the spread of the disease.
Earlier, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, warned parents on the dangers of refusing immunisations.
“It is important to note that one confirmed case of Wild Polio Virus has the potential of infecting 200 children in the community,’’ he said.(NAN)
