Abuja – An NGO, Charis Literacy Impact Initiative (CLII), has trained some secondary school students in the FCT on financial literacy.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two weeks training organised in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) ended on Tuesday at the Junior Secondary School, Nyanya.
Mrs Tonia Ibeneme, the Executive Director of CLII, said that the training programme tagged: “Changing lives through financial literacy education’’ brought out the moral value aspect of money.
Ibeneme said that the CLII used the training to inculcate in the students the moral value of money considering the level of decadence in the society.
“We believe that as they study to become doctors, lawyers, engineers, they should also learn the principle of money and the basic things that have to do with finance.
“We take cognisance of the fact that they don’t earn money at this stage, so the money given to them by their parents should be well managed,’’ he said.
Mr Emmanuel Anthony, the Desk Officer, NGO, Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) lauded the NGO, stating that the training had impacted positively on the students.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The students are really happy about the training because some of them send messages to me thanking the SUBEB for giving them the privilege.
“We believe that some of them have acquired knowledge about how to acquire money and the basic principle of morals that go with this kind of issues.
“They have been enlightened in terms of what to do and what not to do when looking for money,’’ he said.
Anthony said that the issue of fighting corruption would be reduced drastically when school children were equipped with knowledge on how to look for money legitimately.
Mr Yusuf Abdullahi, the Principal, JSS Nyanya said that the training was a way of eradicating poverty, adding that the students had acquired the necessary skills on how to be self reliance.
He said that the training had broadened the students’ horizon on how to be self reliant and become employers of labour. (NAN)
