Igbariam (Anambra) – Some farmers at Igbariam in Anambra East Local Government Area have appealed to the state government to investigate the missing relief materials donated to them by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many farmers in the community lost their produce to flood in March 2015.
Mr Anthony Okafor, a spokesman of the community told newsmen at Igbariam on Thursday that they had reported the lost of the materials to appropriate authorities, including NEMA.
According to Okafor, they submitted video clips of the disaster and other challenges to NEMA.
He alleged that when NEMA brought the relief materials, some people he declined to identify diverted them.
Okafor said that the materials included bundles of zinc, bags of cement, and some food items.
Mr Egbuniwe Nweke, a victim of the flood said that most of the in the community farmers lost large number of farm produce to the flood.
Nweke lamented that they had not been able to repay the bank loan they took to cultivate their farms and appealed to Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra to intervene and investigate the missing materials.

Virginia Mgbaku, another victim, claimed that she had nothing left after the disaster.
However, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Chief Paul Odenigbo, referred newsmen to the administrative Officer of the agency, saying that the document used to distribute the materials was not readily available. (NAN)
