Abuja – Mr Emmanuel Ogundele, the new Controller-General of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), says his major task would be to ensure the safe custody of inmates in prisons across the country.
Ogundele made the remarks while briefing newsmen on assumption of office at the NPS Headquarters on Wednesday in Abuja.
“The major task that the NPS has now is to ensure the safe supervision and management of inmates kept in our custody by all courts of competent jurisdiction.
“So, all other programmes that we have in the course of my service will be highlighted later,’’ he said.
The new CG also expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari , the Minister of Interior and his predecessor, Dr Peter Ekpendu for the appointment.
“First of all, I want to appreciate the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria for finding me worthy of this appointment as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Prisons Service.
“I also want to thank our minister who also is interested in my programme.
“So, also my predecessor, who has also recommended me for this appointment,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the official handover ceremony by the out-going CG to Mr Ogundele was the high-point of the Pull-out ceremony at the NPS Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.(NAN)
