LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – The lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adulraheem Olajide Jimoh has called for the production of the new International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Card), insisting that fake yellow cards were still being issued to unsuspecting Nigerians by those he called unscrupulous elements around the nation’s airports.
In a statement sent to Sundiata Post on Friday, Jimoh explained why he moved a motion on the issue on the floor of the House, saying that, “when you want to travel out of the country, they would request for yellow cards, but unfortunately, the Federal Ministry of Health that is saddled with the job of producing the new cards has not done so. As a result, fake yellow cards are still being issued to unsuspecting Nigerians by unscrupulous people around the nation’s airports.”
He stressed that the fake cards issued to the people is useless since it is not certified by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
According to Jimoh, “with the motion, the House resolved and urged the Federal Ministry of Health to immediately implement the decision of the National Council on Health (NCH) that the Ministry should introduce Yellow Cards with advanced security features.
“The Ministry should centralise the production of the cards and distribute them through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and withdraw the old yellow cards from the system within six months,” he added.
The lawmaker said further that the House also directed the Ministry to provide airport health services in the nation’s international airports in order to provide on the spot services to Nigerians travelling abroad.
