Abuja – A U.S.-based Nigerian, Dr Peter Mozie, has appealed to Nigerian politicians to imbibe the principles of democracy for the survival of the system in the country.
Mozie gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said Nigerians in diaspora were passionate about the survival of democracy back home, saying that with education and continuous awareness, the nation’s democracy could be the best in the world.
“We are interested in improving democratic government and democratic principles in Nigeria.
“The people will always speak through their votes; what you cannot do is to suppress the will of the people.
“America operates under true democracy and it has been the pioneer of democratic principles all over the world and we Nigerians there have enjoyed the profits of democracy.
“We want our people back home to enjoy them same,’’ he said.
Mozie, who also spoke on migration challenges, said Nigerians in diaspora were proposing a workshop to educate Nigerians traveling abroad on the basic immigration issues with relevant bodies on migration issues.
He said seekers of greener pastures abroad must have relevant skills, otherwise they could constitute a nuisance to the society.
He said migrants without relevant skills would not get decent jobs and often degenerate to become beggars or prostitutes and renewing their travel papers, therefore, could be extremely difficult.
