Lagos – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Eastern Marine Command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are to work together to check smuggling in Rivers and boost each others’ operations.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr Sunday Oyinloye, said on Friday that “the synergy followed a courtesy call by the new Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammed Haruna, on the Controller, Eastern Marine Command, Comptroller Usman Bello’’.
“`The two bodies emphasised the need for information sharing especially in the riverine areas of the state to checkmate the activities of smugglers, pirates and pipeline vandals.
“Comptroller Bello welcomed Haruna to Rivers and congratulated him on his new appointment.
“Bello also seized the opportunity to commiserate with Haruna over the death of NSCDC officers who were killed by criminals in the riverine area of the state.
“He (Bello) advised other officers of the NSCDC not to be deterred by the incident but to continue to discharge their duties effectively,’’ Oyinloye said.
