Yola – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Adamawa Government on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on how to strengthen the capacity of tutors in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Dr Halima Abdu, the UNICEF Health Specialist, Bauchi Field Office, said that UNICEF would support 10 tutors from the school to undergo post-graduate diploma training in education to improve their quality and output.
Abdu said that the training would also increase the students/tutors ratio by three fold.
She said that the support would also involve the “engagement of 10 tutors on temporary basis as short-term measures to bridge the gaps in adequacy of tutors in the institution for a year”.
The UNICEF health specialist urged those who would benefit from the training to put in their best and render quality services after the training.
Abdu said that over the years, UNICEF had partnered with Adamawa in the areas of health, nutrition, WASH, child protection and education.
She said that within the last four years, the health sector had benefitted from the joint European Union-UNICEF Support for Scale Up of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Outcomes in Adamawa and Kebbi.
Abdu said that this was alongside the ongoing support to strengthening the Primary Healthcare and Community Resilience for Improved Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) in Adamawa, Bauchi and Kebbi.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Health in Adamawa, Dr Fatima Atiku, lauded the development.
Atiku said that it would go a long way in impacting positively on the state government’s effort in transforming healthcare sector in the state.
