LAGOS – Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) on Tuesday reassured Nigerians that the country would soon overcome its current challenges.
Ikuforiji said this in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rotimi Adebayo, on the 54th Independence Anniversary slated for October 1.
“As we mark our nation’s 54th Independence anniversary, let us all bear it in mind that we shall overcome whatever challenges that our nation may be facing presently.
“It is clear that all has not been well with our nation for so long, but Nigerians must not lose hope.
“We must know that Almighty God has been there for us as a nation in terms of both material and natural resources.
“It is globally accepted that Nigeria is blessed with abundant mineral, human and material resources,” he said.
Ikuforiji appealed to the Federal Government to embrace true fiscal federalism, empower the youths, and aggressively pursue sustainable socioeconomic and human development in all its ramifications.
The speaker said some of the challenges that led to the country’s low level of development include “poor and inept leadership, abandonment of true fiscal federalism and subservient followership’’.
He, however, said that one area where lots of giant strides were being made was in allowing the rule of law to thrive. [eap_ad_1] According to him, this is evident particularly in the way the judiciary has been marching forward in the dispensation of justice.
“An example is my recent acquittal by a Federal High Court of a spurious money laundering charge.
“In addition to that, our legislature too has not done badly at all.”
The lawmaker appealed to Nigerians to recommit themselves to national development for the country to bounce back as the giant of Africa. (NAN)
