ABUJA – Supreme Football Club on Tuesday defeated TEAP FC 2-0 in a thrilling Week 27, Group A derby in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The match played at the Area 3 Sports Complex saw both Abuja-based clubs begin with much pace and purpose as both sides attacked each other from the blast of the whistle.
However, it was Supreme Court FC that opened scoring through, Emmanuel David, in the ninth minute after a goal-mouth struggle.
TEAP FC’s captain, Ikechukwu Uzor, thereafter squandered a glorious chance to level the score in the 11th minute when he saw his close range shot hit the bar.
Things went from bad to worst barely four minutes later for TEAP FC after Goalkeeper Dike Ike fouled Friday Jacob of Supreme Court FC in the box.
Jacob stepped up and converted the penalty cleverly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and doubling the lead for his side in the 16th minute.
Both sides had goal scoring chances afterwards but could not convert them.
However, Supreme Court FC’s two early goals made sure that they secured all three points at the end of regulation time.
Coach Fatai Osho of Supreme Court FC, who expressed joy after the match, told newsmen that he was pleased with the performance of his boys.
“Even though they were chances for both sides, especially in the first half, I think my boys are technically better overall.
“It was, indeed, a much needed three points for us today which have seen us maintain our spot at the top half of the table.
“We will keep pushing to gain more grounds as our aim is to finish in the top four,’’ he said.
Achebe Okoro, the Chief Executive Officer of TEAP FC on his part said the game was an interesting one, adding that his team was unlucky not to have won the game.
“We lost a lot of goal scoring opportunities to seal the game especially in the first half. [eap_ad_1] “However, I will like to commend our opponents on their well deserved victory and the referees for a very good officiating; he gave a good account of himself.
