Sokoto – Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Monday, urged members of the Association of National Accountants (ANAN), to redouble efforts in ensuring sanity of public pay systems for the benefit of the people.
Tambuwal gave the advice when he received ANAN members, led by its President, Shehu Ladan, on a courtesy visit in Sokoto.
Tambuwal described the work of accountants as crucial for national development and enjoined them to live up to expectations by ensuring transparent dealings in public and private sectors.
“I was a member of the National Assembly when the law establishing ANAN was approved.
“I must say that we feel vindicated by that decision because you have deepened professionalism in the accounting profession in Nigeria.
“Your members are holding key positions in this administration and their input is well appreciated,’’ Tambuwal said.
He urged members to do more for the accounting profession by identifying bad eggs among them.
“You are so important to public accounting system that any misdemeanour will have negative effect on the federation.”
Earlier, Ladan said the intervention of the association had helped in boosting ethical conducts in the accounting profession in Nigeria.
“We have instituted mechanisms that will enhance the capacity of our members to act ethically and professionally in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“We call on the state government to liaise with us to train your workers and enhance their professionalism,”Ladan said.
The president, who said that ANAN 2017 Annual Conference had been slated to take place in 2017 in Abuja in October, invited the governor to be the Special Guest of Honour at the planned event.(NAN)
