Ibadan – The Organised Private Sector (OPS) in Oyo State on Thursday pledged its readiness to collaborate with the state government on prompt payment of taxes and compliance with government laws.
Chief Kola Akosile, Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), stated this on behalf of the OPS in an interactive meeting in Ibadan with Mr Bicci Alli, Chairman, Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the OPS comprises the Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti state branches of MAN and the Ibadan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Akosile said the meeting was geared towards facilitating the businesses of their members in line with government regulations.
“We believe that with this, we will have a high level of compliance on tax matters and also develop a cordial relationship with the government.
“By so doing, we shall be creating a conducive environment to do our businesses.
“This forum will be a continuous one; it is just the beginning of a viable collaboration with the government.
“We will still have the private sector legislative forum, where we will engage government before some of the issues on business are put out,” he said.
In his remarks, Alli commended the OPS for the interactive session, which he said was geared towards clarifying the regulations on doing business and explaining the activities of the board.
He said the government was committed to promoting a cordial relationship with the private sector.
“This is because we strongly believe that the sector contributes tremendously to the state economy.
“However, we need you as you need us; for we will not embark on enforcement unless when it is absolutely necessary,” he said.
