The District Head of Garubula village of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi and 11 of his subjects have been killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Wednesday. Witnesses said the attackers, who arrived Garubula in pick up vans and motorcycles attacked the traditional ruler at his residence around 11pm. “We broke our fast in his house and even held Tarawee (supplementary prayers) before we left for our houses,” Musa Muazu, a resident of Garubula said.

When the shooting subsided after about an hour, some of us summoned courage and went out only to see corpses near the house of our district head,” Muazu said. Our correspondents gathered that one of the body guards of the district head was also killed by the assailants. “The district head was shot by the gunmen on his head and was rushed to the Biu General Hospital, where he died,” Modi Surajo, another resident of the village said. Garubula is along the Maiduguri- Damboa- Biu road where dozens of communities have been sacked by the insurgents. (Daily Trust)
