AKPABUYO – The United Cement Company (UniCem) Plc, Calabar, on Friday inaugurated a corps members’ Lodge and Teachers’ Quarters in Cross River.
Inaugurating the projects, the Managing Director of UniCem, Mr Olivier Lenoir, said they were part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
The lodge, built at Government Secondary School, Akwa Ikot, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, will accommodate four female and two male corps members.
The teachers’ quarters, built at Mbobui, Akampka Local Government Area, is designed for teachers of Mbobui Primary School.
Lenoir said the company was investing on key development areas, including education and healthcare and promised more projects for the host communities in due course.
“We are ready to continue to invest in your communities. It is very important to support our host communities,’’ he said.
The managing director said the company was concerned about the rights of the host communities and thanked them for the prevailing peace in the area.
Mr Donatus Etta, the Chairman of Mbobui Community Trust Committee, thanked UniCem for the gesture, saying that the teachers’ quarters would alleviate the suffering of teachers posted to the community.
“We wish to emphasise our gratitude to UniCem for this project,” Etta said.
A community leader in Ikot Effanga, Mr Morris Archibong, said the corps members’ lodge would be useful to the school.(NAN)
