ABUJA – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has now moved Thursday’s Men’s Federation Cup match between Enyimba International FC and Giwa FC, less than 12 hours after it scheduled the game for Abuja.
A statement by NFF’s Head of Communications, Ademola Olajire, on Friday in Abuja said the semi-final match would now hold at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
“Although there was a desire to ensure both semi-final matches are played at the same venue for reason of close monitoring and the probability of Supersport Television broadcasting both games live, officials have now decided to move one of the matches to ensure equidistance for both competing sides,’’ the statement said.
The NFF had earlier on Friday said the match and the other semi-final clash between Prime FC and Dolphins FC would hold in Abuja. [eap_ad_1]
Both matches were slated to hold at the FIFA Goal Project pitch of the Abuja National Stadium on Thursday, July31.
The statement quoted Ruth David, the Head of NFF’s Federation Cup Unit, as saying the decision was taken because Abuja, the venue picked earlier, was much closer to Jos.
“Abuja is much closer to Jos, the home base of Giwa FC, than it is to Aba, the base of Enyimba International FC,” she said.
The statement said four-time champions Dolphins FC and Prime FC will still square off at the Abuja venue, with the match and the one in Abeokuta kicking off at 4 p.m.
It said there was also a change in the women’s event, with the semi-final match between Sunshine Queens and Nasarawa Amazons now to take place in Lokoja on Friday.
The other semi-final game between Rivers Angels and Delta Queens will retain their FIFA Goal Project venue in Abuja for the same day.
Both matches were earlier billed for Abuja on Friday.(NAN)[eap_ad_4]
