Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Assistant Inspector-General of Police (rtd), Dr. Charles Ugomuo on Tuesday at the Labour Party Headquarter in Utako, obtained the nomination and expression of interest form to vie for the Governorship of Imo state.
Ugomuo, who fielded questions from newsmen shortly after he obtained the form, said it is a new dawn for imo people.
The retired AIG vowed to secure lives and property of the people in the state and promised to look into the human capital development if elected into office as governor of Imo State.
On what spurs him to vie for governorship of Imo state and what he will do differently if elected, Ugomuo said it will be the issue of prerogative of governance and that will want to restore peace, safety of lives and property. He said he is poised to reduce violence in the once peaceful state. According to him, it is time to unite the Imo People for progress and prosperity and we need to raise the index of the human capital development in the state.
In his response to how he will revise the regular but ugly news of killings and violence coming from Imo State, Ugomuo said: “You know I am AIG – my government will restore security of Imo People, we will guarantee peace and security of lives and property. He urged the youth in the State who have ran out to neighbouring towns and states to come back that the new dawn and a new beginning is here. Ugomuo assured that the concept will be different since he has the political will to deliver the people from insecurity and violence, adding that he will create people-oriented government that will make the difference.
The retired senior Police officer who reminded that he has contested for the Senate before, said because he is coming with competence, capacity and character, it won’t be a difficult task to displace the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that has been vocal in reclaiming their mandate in the state.
On whethet he has the support base in terms of grassroots support, Ugomuo answered in afgirmatives adding that things have changed and people are looking for change and that he has offered to provide the desired change. He said Imo people are looking for fresh air and provision of security and honestly, we are going to unite imo people. Once they see that you have capacity, competence and character, they will queue behind you and I have all that and they know. I am a tested officer, I have contested for the Senate, I have a masters degree from Unilag, PGD from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Ibadan- I have seen it all, I have what it takes to restore peace in Imo State.
Earlier in his remarks before handing over the form to the Imo governorship aspirant, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Mr Umar Ibrahim assured AIG Ugomuo of the total support of the party and promised that LP will provide a level playing field to all aspirants. He wished him victory in his desire to rescue mission in Imo State, stressing that Imo people are desirous of electing someone that will liberate them and provide them with fresh air.
A retired Controller General of Customs, Mr Ekpendu Peter, PhD, who accompanied AIG Ugomuo (rtd), to purchase the expression of interest and nomination form, extolled the virtues of Ugomuo, adding that he is passionate about all he has devoted his time to and has no doubt that he would make Imo an eldorado. He said they have been close friends since childhood.
Sundiata Post recalls that Imo State governorship election will take place on November 11, 2023 due to the belated inauguration of incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma.
