BENIN – Residents of Benin in Edo on Monday decried the long queues at Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in the city during the Easter holidays.
Those who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) attributed the long queues to shortage of funds in most of the machines.
A NAN correspondent who went round the city reports that most of the machines were not working, while the few that were functioning had many people waiting endlessly to make transactions.
Mr Imuzeze Idubor, who spoke to NAN, described the situation as annoying, noting that the challenges had disrupted people plans.
Also, Mr Ifidon Ebidah complained that he spent almost a whole day on queue on Sunday, regretting that his plan to get money for the festival, using the ATM had been disrupted.
“It is a terrible situation I found myself; I had to cancel my plan of traveling with my family to see my parents in the village.

“I practically spent the whole of Easter day trying to get money through the machine,’’ he stated.
Mr Lucky Imafidon, another resident, also decried the situation and appealed to the banks to always make plan for long holidays.
On his part, Joe Itamagbon described the situation as his worst experience in using ATM.
According to him, after traversing almost all the ATMs without success, I was left with no choice that to return this morning (Monday) to try my luck again.
“But behold, the queue I met was something else as I was later to discover that people kept vigil on these machines in order to get cash,’’ he said.
Miss Florence Edosa described her experience as pathetic, saying the banks should always make contingency plan for holidays.
“Most of the machines have no money.
“This is so because you have manypeople around. Some came from other places for the holidays. It is a case of additional people using the ATM.
“They are bound to run out of cash quickly as a result of the increase in population.
“The banks must learn how to plan for situations like this so that people do not get stranded,’’ she advice. (NAN)
