Journalists in Delta, particularly in Warri, were informed on Wednesday that they were not invited to participate in the proceedings of the military Panel of Inquiry investigating the murder of 17 officers and soldiers in Okuama community.
The Director-General, Political and Security Services in Delta, Mr. David Tonwe, conveyed this message to journalists who had been waiting for the proceedings to commence. The panel, convened at the Governor’s Office Annexe in Warri, began late with representatives from the Okoloba community present, while those from the Okuama community were absent.
Despite calls for an independent inquiry, the military panel proceeded with its fact-finding mission. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized the need for transparency in the investigation and assured the panel of the state government’s cooperation.
The panel, chaired by AVM David Ajayi, reiterated its commitment to gathering facts and fostering civil-military relations. It is scheduled to continue its investigation in Bayelsa on Friday.
