The Osun Police Command has apprehended four suspects accused of conspiring to murder a 45-year-old woman for money rituals in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to SP Yemisi Opalola, the Command’s Spokesperson, the arrests were made following a report of a missing person filed by the woman’s son at the Apomu Police Division in Osun. Opalola stated that the prime suspect, Onifade Oyekanmi, an herbalist, was arrested based on suspicion and later confessed, leading to the arrest of three others.
The suspects confessed to their individual roles in the crime, disclosing the gruesome details of how they strangled the victim, dismembered her body, and burned it along with animal parts and herbs for ritual purposes.
Incriminating evidence, including bottles containing black substances suspected to be burnt human parts, was recovered from their premises. Additionally, the police arrested other individuals involved in various criminal activities, including fraud, possession of illegal firearms, armed robbery, and matricide.
Opalola urged residents to provide prompt and credible information to law enforcement to prevent such crimes in the future. All suspects will face charges after the completion of investigations.
