ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Senate has asked the Federal Government to prioritise the settlement of incurred debts through the issuance of Promissory Notes for the settlement of outstanding reimbursement debts to States, judgment debts and other debt liabilities incurred by the Ministry Department and Agencies.

The resolution adopted during plenary on Tuesday followed the submission of a report of the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts on the promissory notes Programme, for the refund to the Kebbi and Nasarawa State Governments on the newly constructed airport projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Senate had in May this year considered the request of President Bola Tinubu, to establish a Promissory Note programme for reimbursement to the Kebbi State Government of N15.1bn and N9.5bn to Kebbi state for takeover of newly constructed Airports executed on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Senate has therefore approved the Promissory Note programme to settle outstanding claims and liabilities of Kebbi and Nasarrawa State Governments.
