Abeokuta, -The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun Chapter, on Wednesday, called on parents to inculcate good morals and training in their children.
This is with a view instilling in them the fear of God, in order to keep them from being deviants in future.
Mr Timothy Ajibola, the chairman of the chapter, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta, as part of activities to mark the Children’s Day celebration.
He said that parents must learn to treat children with care because they were rare gifts from God to mankind.
Ajibola called on parents not to pursue money at the expense of their children’s future, in order not to regret later in life.
“Parents should know that their paramount responsibility to their families is to train their children in the fear of God, so that those children will be responsible to the society in future.
“But if parents abandon the moral and spiritual upbringing of their children to pursue money, they will make those children moral burdens to themselves and to the society in future.
He also called on the children to assist their parents by keeping away from evil friends, bad books and unhealthy television programmes.

Ajibola urged parents to teach their children to engage in useful activities like reading morally uplifting books or watching “educationally helpful television programmes“.
The chairman also called on the three tiers of government to support families, which he said, were the basis of the society.
He said that government should work hard to create more jobs, so that people would have means of livelihood and be able to support their families financially.
The chairman said that when bread winners of families were without jobs, they would have uncoordinated families, a development he said could result in their being wayward.
The first International Children’s Day was observed by Turkey in 1920, followed by Switzerland in 1925.
The Day was later adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1954.
The main motive behind this convention is to promote child welfare and communal exchange between them globally. (NAN)
