Yabo (Sokoto State)- Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Committee has distributed more than N45.8 million to the needy across the state, its Chairman, Malan Lawal Maidoki, has said.
Maidoki, who announced this on Monday while distributing proceeds realised from Zakat and endowment in Yabo district, said that the money was released to the committee by the state government.
He commended the government for the gesture and solicited for more support from wealthy individuals towards promoting the welfare of the less privileged.
The acting chairman explained that the committee was set up to manage the proceeds realised from Zakat and donations to service the poor and end their suffering.
“The state government will surely do more to further improve the lives of the people, especially the needy,” he added.
Maidoki commended the people of Yabo district for supporting the committee’s efforts, adding that the district was among the best in collections this year.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, admonished wealthy Muslims to pay out their Zakat in order to purify their wealth and earn the blessings of Allah.

“Only by giving out Zakat we can purify our wealth, and by giving out endowment we boost peace in the society and enhance societal development,” he said in a message delivered by Galadiman Gari, Alhaji Aliyu Attahiru.
Abubakar called on people to continue praying for peace and unity in Nigeria and across the world.
The Emir of Argungu in Kebbi, Alhaji Sam’ila Mera, who also graced the event, called on the beneficiaries to utilize the donation wisely in order to be in a better position to also give out Zakat next year.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports 206 bags of millet, one camel, fourteen cows, three goats and N761,000 cash were distributed to the needy in the area.(NAN)
