AWKA – The Minority Leader in the Anambra House of Assembly, Mr Victor Okafor, has suggested a single legislative chamber for the National Assembly to cut the cost of governance.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Wednesday, Okafor said that the presidential system of government was suitable considering the nation’s diversity and cosmopolitan nature.
He admitted that the presidential system was expensive though it was the best choice for the country.
He stressed that the National Assembly could be reduced to a unicameral chamber to prune the cost of governance.
“When you think of the cosmopolitan nature of Nigeria, you will see that the encompassing effects of the presidential system favours us.

“If the argument is on its being expensive, then we can deliberate on the introduction of a unicameral assembly as is the case in some other countries,” he said.(NAN)
