He said electrical engineers should demonstrate their proficiency towards of the growth of both the nation and the sector.
He stressed the need for members to update their skills in a bid to make the association relevant.
Omatseye also advised chapel and zonal chairmen of the association to adopt measures that would ensure attendance of members at technical sessions and other events aimed at raising engineering practice in Nigeria.
“Look for members in your area that can help to distinguish electrical engineering.
“We as engineers are not doing enough; we should not be relaxed in doing the work of craftsmen.
“We just sit down shouting energy, energy, and allow lawyers and other non-professionals to take up our roles.
“For instance, when there is a fire in an office or house they conclude it is electrical, who investigated it?’’
“I appeal to you to brace up and let Nigeria still hear your names as professionals,”
Omatseye added.
Later at an interactive session, the National Membership Secretary, Mr Idn Funsho-Adebayo, urged members to focus on youths in secondary schools, tertiary institutions and the grassroots.
He said a website would be created for group interaction and online registrations.
“We need to help all the chapters to get to the grassroots.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants at the retreat drawn from 24 states of the federation brainstormed on electrical and electronic issues in the country. (NAN)
