Lagos – A 31-year-old banker, Abiodun Aladeyelu, was on Tuesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing N5.8 million from Ecobank Nig. Ltd.
The accused, with no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the accused and one other still at large committed the offences on Nov. 17, 2015 at the Daleko branch of the bank in Lagos State.
He said that the accused discovered that an account had remained dormant for a year and decided to transfer N5.8 million from it into the account of one Solomon Ekeh.
Unuigbe said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three- year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The chief magistrate, Mr P. A. Ojo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till April 20 for mention. (NAN)
