LAGOS (SUNDIATA POST)- APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, has appealed to protesting youths nationwide to be calm, saying President Bola Tinubu and leadership of the National Assembly have heard their voices.
Israel, who made the plea in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, said that the protest was becoming violent in some parts of the country.
“Youths need to be calm. The protest is getting out of hands based on those trying to leverage the scenario to cause mayhem.
“Let us end violence. The President is doing his best for Nigerians. Give him time.
“The President has heard your voice. The parliament has heard,” the youth leader said.
NAN reports that the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had said the ongoing protest called by some Nigerians against hardship in the country had turned violent in the territory.
The Police Public Relations Officer, FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, had told NAN that the police was becoming overwhelmed.
She said the protesters were coming out from different locations against the earlier order, restricting the protest to Moshood Abiola Stadium.
She said the movement of protesters to Eagle Square against the initial restriction of the protest to Moshood Abiola Stadium brought about the violence.
NAN reports that businesses, markets, roads and parks had been shutdown in some parts of the country due to the protest.
The protest, planned to end on Aug. 10, is aimed at drawing the attention of the Federal Government to the hardship faced by citizens. (NAN)
