The management of the ICT University, Yaounde, Cameroon, has bestowed its life-time achievement award on Prof. Edward Olanipekun, the Vice-chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU).
A statement on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, signed by Mr Bode Olofinmuagun, EKSU’s Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, said Olanipekun was honoured alongside Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Olofinmuagun said that the recipients were presented with their different awards to mark the 6th convocation ceremony of the University in Yaounde, which is one of the campuses of the ICT University Foundation of the U.S.
The statement said the Vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Anyambod Anya had, during the award presentation, described Olanipekun as an “accomplished international scholar.”
“The honour was in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of higher education”, Anya said.
Anya also described Obasanjo as, “Africa’s foremost son, who has shaped the political, economic, social and cultural landscape of the continent for over five decades.”
In his response, Olanipekun described the honour as a morale booster towards impacting more on the education sector.
He thanked the Council, Senate and Management of The ICT university for the honour, promising to continue contributing to the development of education in Nigeria and beyond.
