Akwanga (Nasarawa States) – Mr Kwanta Yakubu, the Sole Administrator of Akwanga Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, has announced that the council would provide free uniforms to primary school pupils in the area.
Kwanta announced this on Friday at the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day celebration at the Central Primary School, Akwanga.
Kwanta, who was represented at the occasion by the council’s Director of Personnel Management, Alhaji Ishaq Ibrahim, said that the policy was taken in order to reduce the burden of parents and to improve the standard of education in the area.
“Today’s event which is being celebrated globally is significant in the lives of our children because it affords them the opportunity to interact and celebrate their potentials among their peer group.
“Therefore, it is in realisation of this noble goal that the government deem it necessary to mark the theme of this year’s children day celebration `Addressing the challenges of violence against children’, as you are aware children universally are vulnerable and dependent, but active and full of hope.
“It must be pointed out that it is the primary responsibility of every government to guarantee the security of lives and properties as well as the welfare of its citizens so as to improve on their standard of living for the overall development of the country.
“It is in view of this, as a responsible government, henceforth, the council will provide whole school uniforms to pupils at primary school level as well as the provision of chalks and books so as improve on the standard of education in this area and the state at large,” he said.
Kwanta urged parents and guardians to ensure proper upbringing of their children and protect the rights of their children, adding that the character and personality of the youths depends on their upbringing.
He also called on the children and youths to shun thuggery, indiscipline, selfishness and drug abuse, among other social vices, so as to make them brighter and good future leaders.
The sole administrator restated his administration’s commitment to continue to protect the rights of the children and deliver people’s oriented projects.
